to learn discipline
in those young years
when emotions welled
like never before or since,

we learned
to rein them in,

we somehow felt
that part of us
was missing.

would deprive us
of all our pent up
inventiveness.

of tradition
but You gave us
our own intuition
and we,
in our simplicity,
wooed You
with dogged boyish ineptitude.

those whose students

perceived
there was no further need
to condition us
to Your service,
for in doing
what they told us,
and exacting even more,
we now needed
bridling.
